    • Develop the sensitivity of touch needed to offer Thai Massage, “metta” = unconditional loving touch

    • Learn efficient use of body mechanics - using their hands, forearms, thighs, knees, and feet

    • Learn the contraindications or modifications for specific populations

    • Understand a brief lineage and history of Thai Massage

    • Have an introductory awareness of sen lines and energetic philosophy of Thai Massage

    • Understand how to create a safe space for receivers and use basic trauma theory to give the receiver an experience of deeply relaxed altered state

    • Develop a more energetic mindfulness approach, relying on their intuition and gut brain, to work in a meditative state of mind

    • Amplify your ability to offer assists in a yoga class (for yoga teachers), and/or learn practical body mechanics to improve your longevity with table work (for massage therapists)

  • What type of yoga practices and breathwork can I expect?

    • Jess is an “experienced registered yoga teacher,” teaching more than a thousand hours over the last 5 years. Our yoga practices will include elements of traditional Hatha yoga as well as foundational spinal movements from Kriya Yoga (the basis for what we know today as Kundalini Yoga). Postures we take will be with great intention for where we’re moving energy, and set up safely for proper anatomical alignment. The breathwork practices come from those traditions as well, and could include Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril) breathing, Kapalabhati (breath of fire), box breathing (with retention/holds), application of Mulabhandh (root lock), and simple Coherent Breath (an equal-parts in/out breath practice).  Jess will provide some musical accompaniment with her harmonium when doing mantras to open or close the yoga practices.

  • What’s the add-on bodywork session with Jess entail?

    • Jess has space to offer 1:1 bodywork sessions for you to get the full experience. Her discounted retreat rate for these add-ons is $125 per hour, with a recommendation to plan for a 2 hour session if time allows. Thai Massage is best when unrushed :) We’ll have a private sanctuary space for the work, and you’re sure to leave the session feeling restored, grounded, and freed of tension. For great detail on her work, read www.jesscrutchfield.com/bodywork

  • How will we celebrate the summer solstice?

    • Jess will skillfully facilitate us in ceremony style at sunset to set intentions for the summer months ahead. There will be guided meditation for inner & outer abundance, summer-themed offerings for the altar, gratitudes, and time to review and renew your vision and goals.

  • What if I’m on my period?

    • All practices offered on this retreat are suitable for women at any stage in their menstrual cycle. For those who may be menstruating while here, Jess will offer subtle modifications to make our work more appropriate for you. For example, omitting breath of fire breathing and instead doing coherent breath; or, omitting inversions like head stand with option for more gentle, uninverted postures.

  • What do you recommend I pack?

    • Comfortable, breathable (but not too baggy) clothing that moves with you for bodywork on the floor

    • A flat cushion for under your knees if you desire additional support for our kneeling work

    • A meditation cushion for our seated yoga practices, if you have one you prefer

    • Any musical instruments that call to you & transport well for evenings around the bonfire

    • Any summer-themed offerings for our solstice altar (ie dried grains to symbolize abundance, art you’ve made, red/orange/yellow flower petals or other natural things, incense, dried fruit)

  • How would you describe the area of Todos Santos?

    • Located on the Tropic of Cancer, Todos Santos has a spiritual soul and an energy that breathes into those who stay awhile. Natural light illuminates the sea and shore. Artists flock to record it on canvas, film or through their words. With weather that blends sunny warm days with evenings cool with sea breezes anytime is the right time to enjoy the surrounding natural beauty. Take some time to hike, bike, swim, surf, explore or just sit back and watch the whales pass by. When you are ready to hit the town, Todos Santos is a true Baja gem and an alternative to the resort atmosphere or neighboring Cabo San Lucas and La Paz. Mexican tradition, artistry, and culture come alive in the galleries, boutiques, and eclectic range of farm to table restaurants and cafes.
